Best 32″ LCD TV from 2008

From all 32" LCD HDTV models, Sony KDL-32XBR6 is one of the best performers. It has excellent black levels, competing with some of the best plasma TVs and overall the picture quality is superb. It does have some color accuracy and screen uniformity issues but they are not a big deal.

  • Excellent anti-glare performances.
  • Good viewing angle for an LCD TV.

  • Expensive.
  • Slight screen uniformity issues.

Samsung LN32A650 – 120Hz 1080p 32″ LCD HDTV

Samsung LN32A650 - 120Hz 1080p 32" LCD HDTV

Another excellent LCD TV from the 32" class. It has highly accurate colors and very good black levels, though not as deep as Sony KDL-32XBR6. Overall the picture quality is superb and it also has the abbility to display useful information as news, stocks, local weather, etc. The screen viewing angle is good for an LCD TV and the uniformity is also good for it’s class. One of the downsides, is that the shiny screen reflects light quite a lot.

  • The "red touch of color" may not appeal everybody.

Samsung LN32A550 – 60Hz 1080p 32″ LCD HDTV

This 32" LCD HDTV is a great choice if you are looking for high quality at an affordable price. It lacks 120Hz video processing and many fancy features, however considering the price, LN32A550 is a great performer. Regarding overall pictue quality, it comes very close to more expensive high-end models.

  • Very good price to quality ratio.
  • Great overall picture quality.
  • Accurate colors.
  • Very good black levels.
  • Sufficient connectivity options for most setups.
  • Better anti-glare screen than LN32A650.
  • Good viewing angle, but slightly inferior compared to LN32A650.

Cons

  • No 120Hz video processing, though it is not a big deal.
  • No "exotic" features as found in more expensive models.
  • Not too great screen uniformity.

LG 32LG60 – 120Hz 1080p 32″ LCD HDTV

LG 32LG60 - 120Hz 1080p 32" LCD HDTV

Though its black levels are nothing to write home about, not as deep as those found in competing LCD and plasma TV models, this 32 inch LCD HDTV has a lot of advantages. The number of picture modes and picture settings is impressive, allowing you to properly calibrate the LG 32LG60. It also has a very god anti-glare screen so you will not get distracting reflections. Aside from the black levels, two other areas where it doesn’t perform very well are the viewing angle and screen uniformity, which though not bad, are inferior to other LCD TVs in this class.

  • The full range of picture settings gives you every calibration option you ca wish for.
  • Seven picture modes independent per input!

Cons

  • Relativelly expensive considering the overall picture quality.
  • Black levels are not as deep as those on competing LCD TV models or plasma TVs.
  • Average uniformity.
  • Average viewing angle.

Panasonic TC-32LX85 – 60Hz 720p 32″ LCD HDTV

Panasonic TC-32LX85 - 60Hz 720p 32" LCD HDTV

While it is not a good choice if you plan to use it as a computer monitor, TC-32LX85 is a very good LCD TV for watching movies and TV broadcasts. Its black levels are very deep and it has accurate colors. The biggest downside is that it doesn’t accept 1080p sources.

Cons

  • HDMI ports don’t work with 1080p sources.
  • Average performance with SD content.
