Sony KDL-52XBR6 - 120Hz 1080p 52" LCD HDTV

Though not as impressive as the LED backlit LCDs, the 52" KDL-52XBR6 model from Sony is one of the leaders in its class. It is roughly at the same level with Samsung LN52A650 and it offers a superb picture quality overall. Black levels are very deep for a non-LED LCD TV and colors, thoug not perfectly accurate are good enough not to be a deal breaker. As it is expected from a high-end LCD TV, it has 120Hz refresh rate, plenty of connectors and sufficient features. It also has a good viewing angle and it handles reflections well. On the down site, aside from the slightly inaccurate colors, it has some screen uniformity issues and is a bit expensive.

Pros

  • Superb overall picture quality.
  • Very deep black levels.
  • Solid connectivity options.
  • Excellent anti-glare performance.
  • Good viewing angle.
  • 120Hz video processing.

Samsung LN52A750 - 120Hz 1080p 52" LCD HDTV

The defining characteristic of Samsung LN52A750 is its large set of features. When it comes to picture quality however, it doesn’t have any characteristics to propell it above slightly cheaper models from Samsung or Sony KDL-52XBR6. The black levels are similar to those models and color accuracy is just as good as that of it’s younger brothers from Samsung. In conclusion, if you are not particularly interested in those extra features, this LCD HDTV isn’t the best deal around.

  • Excellent picture quality.
  • Deep black levels.
  • Accurate colors.

  • Slight screen uniformity issues.

The quality of the picture is excellent, Samsung LN52A650 having accurate colors and very deep black levels for a non-LED LCD. Aside from the great picture quality, its feature set is well balanced against the price, offering a much better value than LN52A750. The biggest downside is pobably the shiny screen, which reflects light more than its competitors. Overall however, this is a great 52" LCD HDTV.

  • Picture quality, feature set and price are well balanced.
  • Excellent picture quality.
  • Very deep black levels.
  • Very accurate colors.
  • Offers access to interactive services.

The quality of the picture is excelent, with deep black levels and accurate colors. • Excellent picture quality.
  • Deep black levels.
  • Accurate colors.

Black levels of this 52 inch LCD HDTV are good compared to most other LCDs, however they are not as good as the ones of the best LCD TVs and most plasma TVs. The colors of 52LG60 are accurate, and this LCD manages to impress through the number of picture modes independent per input.

Pros

  • Good overall picture quality.
  • Accurate colors.
  • 120Hz video processing.
  • Very good anti-glare screen.
  • Impressive selection of picture modes.
