- 10 feet for 720p HDTV (high definition TV programs – most sports channels)
- 7 feet for 1080i (high definition TV programs) and 1080p HDTV (movies on Blu Ray Disks)
The optimal distances above are for perfect visual acuity. Also, you can sit a bit closer or further away without noticing a loss in detail.

Panasonic TC-P54V10 Plasma TV

Panasonic TC-P54V10 is the best 54 inch HDTV on the market, offering fantastic picture quality thanks to its deep black levels and accurate colors in THX mode. In terms of picture quality is closest to Samsung UN55B8500 LED LCD TV, however it doesn’t have the viewing angle issues that UN55B8500 has. Being the best model from this size class, it is also expensive.

- Accurate colors in THX mode
- Very good video processing performance

- Expensive
- Colors are accurate only in THX mode. In other modes they are not as good.

Panasonic TC-P54G10 Plasma TV

With black levels just as good as those of V10 models and benefiting from THX mode, Panasonic TC-P54G10 is the second best plasma TV of this year. Though overall the picture quality falls a bit behind Panasonic TC-P54V10 plasma TV and Samsung UN55B8500 LED LCD TV, the value for money is better. If you want a good value and you put more emphasy on quality than on a low price, this is an obvious choice.

- Presence of THX mode gives accurate colors
- Good overall value
- Picture quality very close to that of more expensive models
Cons
- In non-THX mode, colors are not as accurate
- SDTV performance could be better
Panasonic TC-P54S1 Plasma TV

Compared to the above models from Panasonic, TC-P54S1 sacrifices picture quality and features a bit, in order to be more affordable. It is built around the new NeoPDP panel, just as the above models, so the black levels are similar. However, it lacks THX mode and the collor accuracy is not as good. Aside from that, it also has fewer features. Overall however, unless you want the best quality and the latest features, this TV will give you a very good picture quality for a much better price.
Pros
- Very good overall quality
- Not as expensive as models from V10 and G10 series
- Though it lacks THX mode and the colors are not perfect, it is still better than most TVs out there
- Very deep black levels
Cons
- No THX mode – colors slightly inaccurate
- Not as many features as other models
- SDTV video processing is below other competing models
