LG 47LH90 LCD TV Review

April 11, 2010

Moderate in size, but more than average in performance, LG 47LH90 is guaranteed to make a good impression, especially because of superior picture quality. Some minor flaws bring the model down a few notches, but if you can live with a little blooming effect, or the fact that the dejudder processing must be engaged in the same time with the anti-blur features, then LG 47LH90 is one of the best LCD TVs that you can buy. It must also be mentioned that LG 47LH90 has great connectivity, and a matte screen that fights off reflections without any hassle.

Note: This review covers only the important aspects like picture quality. To find out more about this TV, you should also read LG 55LH90 review which is more detailed. Both TVs are virtually the same except for their size, so what we said about LG 55LH90 applies to LG 42LH90 as well.

Performance

There are no many bad things that could be said about LG 47LH90, as far as its performance is concerned. First things first, image quality is indeed great, because of reliable black levels and accurate colors. The great picture quality is accompanied by solid connectivity options, but, when video processing comes up, there is something that some people may find annoying: first, that the effect of the 240Hz refresh rate is hard to notice, and second, that engaging the anti-blur feature cannot be done unless you engage the dejudder processing as well.

Black Levels

Fans of plasma technology may say that LG 47LH90 does not have the same quality of black levels, but this 47 inch LCD TV is perfectly capable of delivering black levels that are hard to equal by HDTVs playing in the same league. Shadow detailing is great, as well, which contributes to the great picture quality the model sports.

Color Accuracy

Picture quality also relies on the LG 47LH90’s accurate colors. It is worth mentioning that the dark areas are not marred by the bluish tinge (especially noticeable on Samsung models), and skin tones always look natural. Although not as good as seen on plasma TVs, the colors are accurate and good looking.

Video Processing

Video processing may pose some problems for people expecting a lot from LG 47LH90. Once the dejudder processing is off, you are basically turning off the anti-blur feature as well, which makes it hard to tell the effect of each of these modes. A good thing is that 24p True Cinema is implemented on this model, which makes watching movies in their original cadence a walk in the park.

Anti-Glare

The matte screen installed on LG 47LH90 makes it easy to watch under bright light conditions. You will not be experiencing any reflections (like it happens with Samsung models), and you will be thankful to the manufacturer for having though about this, as well.

Standard Definition (SDTV) Performance

Noise reduction capabilities for this model are great, and they make watching SD content great fun. Artifacts are invisible, and engaging different modes will not hurt the way the image is displayed, which is very important.

Conclusion

LG 47LH90 may not be the absolute best, but it is among the greatest LCD TV models on sale as we speak. Its advantages are definitely greater than its disadvantages, so you may want to try it, if you are looking for a competitive LCD TV with a great looking image.
