It seems that Panasonic has thought the G10 series with the purpose of satisfying the crave for the most popular size categories. Panasonic TC-P46G10 is a 46 inch plasma TV considered to be the best for this diagonal size, and, the fact that it carries all the good points of the series is the basis for this statement. Among the good points of this Panasonic plasma TV, one will find great black level quality, THX certification meaning great colors right from the box, and amazing HD performance. It may not still be on par with the V10 models, the newer model from Panasonic, but it is still better than the S1 models and most HDTVs on the market, with enhancements in color accuracy and overall performance.
Note: This review is brief, covering only the most important aspects of TC-P46G10. If you would like to find out more about this plasma TV you should also read Panasonic TC-P50G10 review which covers in-depth the 50 inch variant of the same series. Since both models are part of G10 series, they share the same features and performance, only their screen size being different.
No doubt about it, Panasonic TC-P46G10 can be included in the category of high end plasma TVs. In its favor, we can count its amazing, ink like blacks, great shadow detail, and the THX certification. Still, the model encounters small issues with color accuracy, partially solved from the S1 series, by the implementation of the THX certification. Also, when operating in 48Hz mode for 1080p/24 video content, some artefacts are prone to appear, such as flicker, and it is highly recommended to switch to 60Hz frequency to get rid of it.
The model is gifted with the company’s newest technology in black levels and Panasonic TC-P46G10 is almost as good as the V10 models, which does say a lot, since the latest releases from Panasonic get closer and closer to the long acclaimed Kuro from Pioneer. The great black levels it exhibits, doubled by superior contrast ratio, lead to a great capacity of shadow detail. Watching television on Panasonic TC-P46G10, especially high definition content, is, indeed, a great experience, especially due to the great black levels and shadow detail.
The new THX certification may seem like a good reason to pay extra for the G10 series products, such as Panasonic TC-P46G10, as this is a guarantee that the colors will look great, without having to tweak with them, like you should for series inferior to G10. The features does its job, and it does it well, but, still, there are some color accuracy issues that may not be overlooked by professionals. However, this is not a serious drawback that can determine you to stay away from Panasonic TC-P46G10, due to its very small magnitude.
When watching high definition content, Panasonic TC-P46G10 does a swell job. With 1080p/24 content in 48Hz there are some problems, because flicker appears when watching in this mode, but switching back to old faithful 60Hz solves the problem. If you like to watch your Blu-ray discs on Panasonic TC-P46G10, you will be able to, but only if you take this advice in consideration.
Buying a competitive plasma TV just for watching standard definition programs may not sound like a great idea, but the truth is that regular DVDs are still popular, so you will still need a plasma TV with good standard definition performance. Panasonic TC-P46G10 comes with solid noise reduction capabilities, but it is not the best performer for standard definition programs, as other products on the market do a better job.
The size is one aspect that counts a great deal when searching for a new plasma TV, as each buyer wants a product that can be adjusted to a certain room in their house. That is why Panasonic TC-P46G10 is the greatest product in its category. If we add to this the great quality picture it displays, and its impeccable blacks, you will easily see why we think this is a recommended buy.
