Samsung LN40B750 LCD TV Review

April 7, 2010

While it is only but the smallest representative of the series, Samsung LN40B750 can prove to be a very good choice for someone desiring an LCD TV with great perks, but with a smaller screen, in order to reduce expenses, or simply because a smaller quantity of screen inches is on the wish list. It has 240Hz, a wide array of web streaming options, a very reduced response time, and a superior dynamic contrast ratio. You may not feel that comfortable with it, if you are going to watch TV in a room that is brightly lit, as some reflections are prone to appear, but the bottom line is that Samsung LN40B750 is a great option, if you can afford it.

Performance

Samsung LN40B750 is a good performer. Because it has 1080p resolution, displaying high definition content is no problem for this model of LCD TV. Also, it is worth mentioning that its levels on black are almost on par with those seen on plasma TVs and this should not be taken lightly, since this is an LCD TV we are talking about. The anti-reflective capabilities are not so great, though, and reflections may prove bothersome in some cases.

Black Levels

You will be enjoying a great quality picture, if you settle for Samsung LN40B750, as this quality is based on great levels of black. Usually, LCD TVs do not get along right with displaying inky blacks, but this model has done it, and for once, black is black, even if it is an LCD TV you are looking at. Dark scenes could be better, as they are not on the same level with the blacks.

Color Accuracy

Primary and secondary colors are displayed properly, and they look crispy clear. They do not have enough juice to truly be competitive against plasma TVs, but they are enough for an LCD TV and even more. Skin tones look natural, and only dark areas show a little bluish tinge, which is little, if compared with many other LCD TV models.

Video Processing

In terms of video processing, Samsung LN40B750 does quite well, especially since its dejudder processing is great. While the judges are still deliberating whether the 240Hz feature does the trick for reducing blur, the truth is that you get a lot less blur in fast moving scene with this new generation type of LCD.

Bright Light Performance (Anti-Glare)

Reflections are, indeed, a bother, for this model, as, when you watch the screen in a room that is brightly lit, you will get some of them hurting your eye. On the other hand, the colors do not look washed out, as seen on plasma TVs, under the same circumstances.

Standard Definition (SDTV) Performance

Samsung LN40B750 is a great asset when bought for watching SD content. Its noise reduction features do their job, and you will not be harassed by any artifacts during your viewing sessions. Moire or jaggies will not bother you, either, which is a great plus for Samsung LN40B750.

Conclusion

If you have enough money in your pockets, it is worth spending them on Samsung LN40B750. Except for some minor issues with colors and anti-reflective capabilities, the model presents a lot of advantages, including great picture quality for an LCD TV.
