While Panasonic has strived for quality and design, Samsung has not acted as unaffected. Through its Samsung PN58B850, the company intended to offer the buyer the one plasma TV considered to be the coolest looking product ever released in 2009. This Samsung plasma TV has more than just looks, and taking a look at its specs and its performance will surely tip the balance towards it. If you intend to buy a 58 inch plasma TV, this particular model has everything needed to determine you at least to evaluate it and compare it with other models. You should know, however, that about the only thing that puts the difference in price between a Samsung PN-B650 model and this B850 model, is the awesome 1.2 inch frame design. Everything else – performance and features – is pretty much the same.
If you ever looked at the 650 series from Samsung, you will notice that Samsung PN58B850 has the same level of performance and the same picture quality. This also means that its performance is very good, only slightly behind the performance exhibited by Panasonic’s latest releases. With great black levels, the most accurate colors seen in 2009, and solid video processing, Samsung PN58B850 is a great quality plasma TV.
Black levels and shadow details are excellent on Samsung PN58B850, even if they do not match the V10 series from Panasonic, deemed as the best plasma TVs in 2009. The level of blacks is more than decent, and it contributes to the overall image quality. Also, shadow detail has nothing but to gain from this, offering great results and improving the general performance.
Color accuracy is the best aspect Samsung PN58B850 sports, as its colors are so crisp and clear that the image rendered on the screen makes for a great experience for the viewer. Even if it still falls behind Kuro from Pioneer, its colors are better than on the most expensive Panasonic models. Primary and secondary colors are accurate, and they contribute heavily to the image quality.
Samsung PN58B850 can boast about its superior video processing capabilities, as it can solve successfully any type of high definition signal it receives, including 1080p/24 content, delivered by Blu-ray discs. It also comes with a special 24 frames per second cinema mode that does its job to a high extent.
If you still intend to watch standard definition programs and regular DVDs on your plasma TV, you can do so and get the greatest results with Samsung PN58B850. With solid noise reduction capabilities, the model is capable of showing the best image for standard definition content, especially when compared with other plasma models.
Samsung PN58B850 is the right product for the right consumer. This basically means that, if you have the extra cash to pay for the gorgeous looks of this model, you still get the same performance as you would from a 650 model. Even if it is not on par with Panasonic’s latest releases, it is still good enough to deserve a second glance.
